The Hoback Basin is approximately ten miles from end to end, aligned along the braids of the Hoback River and bisected by Scenic Byway, Wyoming Highway 189/191.

The Basin has no commercial town center, although residents proudly patronize the Elk Horn bar/convenience store/gas station, the seasonal Branding Iron Cafe, and the Bondurant post office (zip 82922).

At the heart of the valley, the community's two historic buildings - St. Hubert the Hunter Church and the Library - are central to the community's social and historic fabric. The population strongly supports a volunteer Fire Department and Elementary School.
